As really cold weather is hitting us I am finding there is a considerable amount of cold air pouring into the basement because the house is under a constant vacuum from two stoves sucking the air out of the house. When it hits 12 degrees out pipes in the basement approach freezing.

Sidebar:
The house is 164 years old and has a stone & dirt basement. The other half of the house has a crawl space that has openings to the basement. These are where the cold pours in. We have been here four months and have yet to work out the whole insulation / anti-freezing pipe thing.

In other news.... I took delivery of the second 3-ton load of corn. The silo is full again. Razz

Anyway...

To reduce the cold air getting sucked into the house it is/was necessary to start venting these stove intakes to the outside.

So I did what pyrolyte has done with his intake.

The intake is a window cut on the other end of the pipe - which is outside

kkrivanec, I doubt that pipe is large enough in the first place to relieve the negative air pressure and second I think it isn't doing anything. The type L pellet vent is a closed jacket where you have it attached. You need an air pipe from outside connected directly to the stove.

I failed to mention that I cut a window at the other end of the pipe section for air intake. A little hood and screen still need to be fabricated to keep bugs and other nature out. None of this is shown. It would be an outside photo.
