We are trying to find a nice pellet/corn stove to insert into our existing fireplace. One local stove company recommended (and only sells) Golden Grain stoves. They recommended the Model 1201 fireplace insert, but I have been having some trouble finding information on them. I'm going to be a corn/pellet stove first timer, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I just want something that is good quality that won't break down. I don't need fancy, I just need dependable. Any information you can provide would be helpful. Thank you so much.

Ask the dealer if they have installations that you can visit so you can see an insert in operation and ask questions. Make sure they install chimney liner and seal the chimney to the top of the chimney. If you burn corn the liner should go above the chimney and exhaust shouldn't dump into the chimney part way up. Remember, BTU ratings are for the fuel burned, not the net BTU heat to the living space. The hopper capacity dictates how often you need to add fuel. If you are using the stove for most of your heating requirements higher hopper capacity requires fewer fillings.

Thank you for the advice. Once again, I hadn't really thought about the chimney liner going all the way up the chimney.

To tell you the truth, I think that I am more comfortable with old technology than new technology - in theory anyway.

If anyone has pictures of an installed insert, and knows how to put them on the computer, I would love to see them. I'll make sure I see one in person, of course, but it would be great to see more than one.

I really appreciate your time. At least now I feel like I have enough information to ask intelligent/important questions. Thanks so much.
