| Last winter I burnt only pellets and this year I am going to get two tons of free corn "Free Heat" so I was wondering if anyone had any tips for burning a corn and pellet mix. For example what is the percentage of corn to pellets for a softer clinker. Does the unit burn hotter? Do I need more air? All suggestions are welcome. Thanks |

| i burn corn and sometimes pellets. no changes whatsoever. pellets don't have the BTU's of corn though. more ash less klinker, still no problem. |

Jbirish-
I burn a 50-50 mix my first year and never had a problem. Burning was just easier for me till I learned the stove and its adjustments. Since then I have burned stright corn for 3 yrs now without problems. If the stove acts funny it needs a really good cleaning out vents, pipes and blower motor assy. Just call Mark a call at Fahrenheit great tech support. _________________ Fahrenheit 50f

one to one is a sweet spot -- still some clinker formation -- but its not well formed and breaks up easily
2 pellet to one corn and the starch clinker is well defeated
one pellet to two corn -- still a clinker but not as tough
This will all vary with you - the appliance type - the amount the appliance is on hi fire vs idle fires - the growing season - the corn moisture - even the pellets you mix in _________________ When you turn your boiler on - - Does it return the favor?
I am sorry - My responses are limited - You must ask the right question! |

Is there a reason that one would not want a clinker in this unit? I find the hockey pucks are easier to empty and clean than a lot of ash.
I went through about 500 lbs of pellets last year before I got some corn. I thought there was more to clean when burning pellets than there was when I used straight corn. Last year was also my first year so I don't have a lot to compare it to yet. _________________

Tinytim,
I am not sure but I was worried about making the clinker soft enough to break easy. I am really hoping that by making a pellet corn mixture I will get more heat out of the unit. It was ok on pellets but I would like the blower to run longer than it did on pellets. It would run for two minutes and then shut off for 5 min. That was running the unit on level 4. What the heat difference when you went to corn? |

Jbirish-
If I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying the blower is not staying on over a few minutes then shutting down till the units sensors are now hot enough to kick the fans on. Try on the control board setting the fan setting to constant run setting 3 may be diffenrt on the newer units. Also are you running on manual or on thermostat control? _________________ Fahrenheit 50f

I didn't take any temp readings when I was burning just pellets. However, burning only corn I have got it up around 175 degrees taking the temp reading 12" up from the plenum. This was during a mild winter day.
Here are some other temps I have recorded during a really cold spell-
Level 5 was around 150
Level 4 was around 147
Level 3 was around 143
Level 2 was around 124
Level 1 was around 115
When you say the fan, are you referring to the main blower fan? Unless I am running on level 1, mine stays on all the time. On level 1 I've had it cycle on and off. On level 4, without the blower fan running, mine would go into melt down mode I would think. |

| I am talking about the main blower fan. I wish mine would stay on It just cycles off and on as the temperature drops. I am getting a new pot and I am hoping that will help it work better. Thank goodness for Mark. |
