I keep looking at the front of my Greenfield and think that more hot air would come out if I "trimmed" the steel cover plate (not the cast iron parts) a little bit where I see it covering some of the tube openings. Anyone else tried this?

Besides the part you want to trim off, how do you like your Greenfield?

I like it - but this is my first pellet stove, so my comparison is limited. I like the simplicity - no klinker breakup with rotating rod in the burn pot, which I think leads to efficiency- I can burn all day and have a klinker about the size of a deck of cards when I empty the next day. As the other St croix users, running on 5 is problematic. I think I should be able to get more heat out of it, but right now it is in an uninsulated basement, and does ok. But studying the heat exchanger tube placement has led to my desire to tinker/improve it. I think St Croix has blocked off some air flow that could easily put out more heat. I love the look of the cast iron, and the simple start up and hopper fill is a big plus for the whole family. I think I would buy St Croix again.

That's good to hear that you would buy St Croix again.

Stay Warm,

looking at the pictures of the green field its hard to see what you are talking about but if its what i think it is i think its designed to slow the air coming out so it picks up more of the heat from the exchanger my furnace has a sheet metal deflector on it as well the inner workings of both stoves seem similar

My stove cranks out some heat, no mods done to it. If you need to run level 5 problem free, try mixing corn and pellets, maybe 15%-20% pellet. Doing this and you'll have a really nice hot burn.Otherwise I just run corn and level 4 and works like a charm. The clinkers can be a pain at time though, sticking. Mad

I just bought a second greenfeild today, this one is used and just needs a little cleaning,as the people who had it before did not know how to use it, thus the selling it cheap $800 Very Happy . I'm not to sure if I'm going to keep it or just sell it after I fixer up. Will see.
