Hi
I have a ldj 100000 water boiler.I was filling the bin this morning the aqustate started the pump to keep it under 220 degree. When the pump started the blower and auger started. I went behind and seen that the light was out on the timer. So i turned the switch to off and the blower and auger stop. The water pump kept running.I heard a sound like a dull pop and turned the switch back to run then the light was on the timer was green and the pump was still working. So I hung around waited to do the cycle and work fine a couple of time and work ok. Any ideas what to look for or try to get it to do it again.
The settings on the high fire is 180 and 160 deg.
I was upstairs and herd it so went and it was doing it again. When pump starts then sometimes the blower and auger runs the light was out so put it on off then blower and auger stopped this time I didn't hear no dull pop when it was turnd off.I turn the switch on when water pump was off then the green light was on. I think when water pump is on sometimes for some reason it kills the timer.
Thanks

Hi Tim, I have the 100k furnace, but I think the timer is the same for this. When there is a call for High fire, the timer goes off (no lights) and it runs till the call for heat is satisified. Then it goes back to the idle fire (lights on)and runs that way till the call for more heat happens again.

I noticed something else, too: Maybe it's really warm in Donnelson right now, but usually your dump zone shouldn't have to kick during winter months to keep the boiler temp below 220 degrees. You might consider lowering the settings on your aquastat to perhaps 170/150 to save fuel and still heat your house adequately.

When should the high fire be called for? Is it at below 180 or 160 deg. When the dump kick in and the high fire was on temp was at 195 deg.on the unit. I will turn it down to 170 and 150 hope it save dollars on this.
Thanks

The Hi setting on the aquastat tells the boiler when to go into high fire, minus half of the differential setting (If I remember right). The Lo setting tells the aquastat when to shut the circulators off because the temperature is too low.

High fire is determined by your low limit water temperature and differential settings on the triple aquastat. The low limit setting also controls the circulator if it is connected as shown in the second picture.

The picture above I believe is what your triple aquastat looks like.

This picture above is how my father has his LDJ boiler wired. Yours may or may not be wired the same. The wires on the B1 and B2 terminals go down to a relay that engages the burner into high fire mode. That relay is located in the box just below your triple aquastat. If you look at the above circuit you will see the words HIGH LIMIT. That is your high limit setting. When the High Limit temperature setting is reached that connection is broken and prevents the burner from operating in high fire mode only. Low fire operation is a separate circuit so the triple aquastat has no effect on low fire operation. Low fire is controlled by the On/Off Switch Control Box, Stack Limit Switch, and High Limit Control shown in the last picture.

The above is a graphical representation of some things I tried to explain.

This picture below is a LDJ 165k Btu unit; a 100k Btu boiler will not have the box with a high fire timer.

Thanks for the infor.I take it that hi fire should only happen when the water gets below the set setting on the aquastate hi side. So mabey I was on the edge when Hi fire kick in when the dump kick in or the aquastate is going bad I turned the setting down to 170 & 150 will keep a eye on it see if it does it again..
