I've been running program 1, heat level 5, on a wall thermostat, been doing fine all season. Burning straight pellets. Haven't messed with the convection fan settings, manual says it will shut down if exchanger temp hits 200

I am on program 3 level 4. I have not checked the temp output. It has heated my house without a problem, even when we had teens below zero. At my program level the fan will run continuous even when in pilot mode. It has been a workhorse and has ran flawlessly.

RTP, what are you burning in that? If I tried running at those levels, I'd hafta leave the windows open. I know you guys have been a lot colder than us this year, we've only had one morning this winter below 0, and that was only like -2. Mine normally runs on pilot all day, tstat calls for heat 2-3 hrs. 2-3 times a night.

Hoss

I am burning pellets (hardwood) Yes we have had some very cold highs even (single digits to below 0) during the day. Even with these temps my stove does not run all day and I have only had it run all night 3 times so far this winter. I keep the house at 66 during the night and 69 to 70 during the day. 2000 SQ FT ranch style. Not sure why it does not burn me out but if the temp gets in the upper teens and 20s it does not run much. I have gone thru just under 3 tons this heating season.

I have been running program 3, level 3 most of the time. I have not ever taken any output air temperatures.

My blower will run most if not all the time at this setting.

RTP, you must be running on smartstat? I did that some last winter, wifey doesn't like it, temp swings too much, gets too cold before it restarts, 'course I've got a cheapo thermostat, I do run smartstat spring and fall. This time of year the only time it shuts down is Sunday for cleaning.
kennedy, I've never taken any temp readings, seems pointless. Convection fan comes on when it gets hot enough, goes off when it cools down.

I am using a mixture of about 2/3 corn and 1/3 cherry pits during colder weather. When it stays above 32, I use just cherry pits.

The cherry pits (or wood pellets) mixed with the corn seem to make the corn burn better and with less clinker issues.

If you are using just corn, you will need a lot of air.

Too much air will Lean it out, which isn't good either.

Jammer is right. It is a balancing act for the right amount of air.

Hoss

I have been out of town for sometime so just getting back now. I run on smart stat and then switch back to T-stat when it reaches temp. I work at from home so I can switch back and forth. On t-stat it will run in pilot mode but I eventually switch it back so it will shut off. Even in T-stat the temp continues to climb and becomes to warm in the house. You are right that if I let it shut off to quick and let the temp go to low it takes to long to recover so I treat it this way.
