Had offered up to me this weekend 50 or more bushel of corn for free as far as I understand. The farmer says that the cows wont eat it because it has an odor that is due to brand or whatever, they didnt elaberate. it is in a bin and Im wondering if anyone has any knowledge of corn that is supposedly good but cattle wont take it with out mixing it it in with other feed but it just has that odor about it. Anyone ever hear of this? Corn is not moldy and is cleaned and dry.

Take half a pail home and burn it. If it works it will be good. What does it smell like? If its clean and dry there really should be no odor and the cattle should eat it.
I wonder if it had bugs and was treated? But the smell should have dissipated. Look closely for signs of weevil - little holes in the kernels and hollow kernels with meat eaten out leaving the shell.

If you take it cover it with a layer of diatomaceous earth as a precaution. Those little moths are a pain.... Crying or Very sad

I've burned some moldy corn. It didn't smell so good but burned very well. It was dry and free for the hauling. Very Happy Cows do have their standards. Laughing What they really like best is corn on the stalk when it is still green. Evil or Very Mad Ask any farmer that has cattle and corn. Rolling Eyes

What tallcorn said is about the same thing as it was explained to me but the farmers wife just said that they have had the same problem with some corn a few years ago. I think I am going to tell them I will take it. Worst that can happen, I will have to dump it, but its free. She did say that its not a mold smell and decribed it as that corn smell that is a little strong??? I will try the stuff to get rid of the weavils and moths as in another post, thanks all.

Don't worry. Your appliance can't taste or smell. It just combusts. Laughing
