Hi Folks,
I'm a new member to the forum but no stranger to corn burning. As the subject line says I have been heating a two story Cape Cod with this 30,000 btu unit for 15 seasons now and this will be our 16th. We heat for six months of the year with electic heat as our suplement.
Over the years I have replaced the outside vent twice, the door glass twice, the combustion blower once, rebuilt the fire pot once, and had it apart more or less every year for a thurough cleaning.
I did replace the auger gearbox within the first half hour of running time but that was not a stove fault so much as an operator malfunction. I saved a few bucks by buying a new dealers demo model. He delivered the unit to me by trailer after a trade show with a hopper full of poor quality corn and chaff. I believe the transit compaced the corn and chaff such that the auger bound up and stripped out the gearbox. It was replaced under warentee and has never given any trouble since.
I would like to know if anyone else has logged this kind of experience and if so on which units. After all this time we are thinking of building an addition to our home and a corn furnace is something I would like to investigate.
