Very Nice. I wonder if I place a "y" in my system to add clean burn to my corn, how it will work. Thanks for the idea. I will keep you up to date how it works.

BRB,

One thing to keep in mind is that you have to pull material up both legs of the Y at the same time for it to work well. If not, the unused leg acts as a large leak in your system and the material will flow slowly.

If you want to use just one leg, you can cap the other side or just hold it up against something to block the air flow. The floor, inside of a bucket or even a pant leg works for that.

How long does it take when you sucking both pellets and corn up?

I timed it tonight. 40lb pellets and 40lb corn (80 lbs total) in 5 minutes.

i never inploded a 55 gal fiber barrel with my 4 hp vac and then i got my 6.5hp shopvac it would suckum right in so i switched to 30gal drums no problems unless the drum gets a dent or a wrinkle in it from banging it around.
the drums i get came with liquid in them and plastic lids with bung holes the lids hold up very well

Here are some pictures. Was late last night when this got done and I had some ice dams to take care of first ...

And Corny, thanks for the comment on the safety relief. I'll make something up for that.

Here's the whole set up, though the hose end isn't attached. I use a 2" "Y" with two hoses coming out and suck pellets and corn at the same time.

Same thing, but another angle:

Here's the underside. The drum sits on a small stand I made from 2x4's. The toilet flange is inside the drum, but sticks out and a 3-2" reducer is attached. From there I angle out 45 degrees to the ball valve. The two wood strips by the outlet are attached to the drum, screwed from inside. They are 3/4" plywood (scrap pieces I had on hand).

This is the underside of the top, with the 1/2" plywood.

And here is the top. I found some #8 piercing screws, 1/2" long, so with a thin washer and the top of the drum, the screws hold the top and don't break through the plywood. Plus no holes to drill Smile

what is the pvc setup at the outlet? i have been looking locally for a slide gate but cant find one
how does yours work? obviously it holds a vacuum, but how quick and easy is it to open and dump the contents??

I am thinking about using a fiber barrel for storing some cleaned corn/pellets until I can build a storage bin later this year.

I'd like to put the Corn Vac on top and fill the barrel that way. But I know the barrel has to withstand the vacuum of the system. I've seen them at work and they seem like they could take the vacuum.

Has anyone tried using a fiber drum? Does it hold shape under vacuum or not?

Looking at one like this: http://www.safetycompany.com/cep-gal-fiber-drum/p_3386.html

Are you anywhere near Van Wert, Ohio??? If so, we have a very large fibre drum plant there now called Greif, Inc. They will sell you seconds if you ask nicely.

Sorry for the delayed response - I didn't visit the forum much this past year.

The outlet is a ball valve. It works well and rarely clogs with pellets, and never with corn. It opens easily with corn, and a small amount of difficulty with pellets. It sometimes jams when I'm shutting flow off, right before a full seal, but a quick open and close movement clears it.
