Gawd, that was a looooooooooong time ago.
This all fits under 'Pre-Purchase' questions and comments.....It was pre purchase to marriage. I didn't marry that one nor did I marry the one in the Vette or any from the Lincoln but it was adding to the experience that helped me adjust to married life. Problem is, it took 4 marriages to get even that part right.
I'm kind of surprised Tinman hasn't chimed in. He's still got the Vette he had when he was younger....... |
The one I have now I've only had since 1996.............but I did have the same car (65 vette with the 396) but it was green from 68 -72, sold that car for $1500...........guess why?..........got married. In 1971 I had a 70 sportster and 65 vette both paid for, I also had my Journeymans card and I was single...............what the hell was I thinking?.........never had any money for years after that.
flip you should have kept that 409, dam if we only would have saved all those baseball cards, lunch boxes and all that other junk from the 50's and 60's we could all retire and burn propane _________________ "You know everybody is ignorant only on different subjects"...Will Rogers

I had the same 'marriage penalty'. My 69 427 vette went when I married the first wife and the 63 Porsche 356B Super 90 went for $1200 when I married the second one. I had rebuilt the Porsche, which was a rare bird and did some very distinctive painting on the cooling shroud. That sucker showed up on Barrett Jackson several years ago!!!! I couldn't believe I was looking at my car! It went for $105,000................................ Talk about sick!!!!! _________________ Quadra-Fire Castile and Sante Fe inserts

That's why I now collect firearms. They always increase in value and the worse the economy gets, the more value they accrue.
Everytime there is a hint of anti-gun legislation, the value jumps before my eyes. I love it.
Never got into Porscheee's. Closest I came was a Karman Ghia. I'm not fond of German cars, I am of German women, I've married 2. _________________ Flipmeisters Specialty Products, LLC

I agree 100%. Problem is, we never think about the future until it's too late. Guess that's why I never sell anything anymore. I'm always thinking it will be worth more someday....
Interestingly, I still have the original Gerstner Mahogany tool chest that my dad bought me when I turned 17. I've never kept any tools it it other than it's filled with my Zippo lighter collection. I went on and got my Journeymans card in T&D from Standard Products in Cleveland, but I had an old used Kennedy I picked up somewhere. That went away and I have 2 Gerstner Oak boxes I picked up on Flea Bay in my shop that contain all my Starrett tools. The original box my dad bought me cost 125 dollars in 1966, I still have the receipt. The box was valued by Gerstner for 6500 dollars. It's an L.S. Starrett signature chest. I have the only one known to be in existence and it's in the condition it is because my dad died the same year and I promised myself I'd never use it.
It's amazing how even inane things appreciate in value and no, it's not for sale.
I'm considering peddling the Zippo collection. Have all the Joe Camel lighters unused plus about 5000 more. I even have a solid gold zippo, not plated, solid 14 carrot gold. _________________ Flipmeisters Specialty Products, LLC

Wow, what a wonderful story about the tool box. The old tool and die makers used to all have them and if you even came CLOSE to it, they would kill you. I used to tease them all the time. Or take a piece of aluminum over to their silicone carbide grinder. They were all German. That's where I learned some really good German cuss words!!!! I'm Pa. Dutch, so my dad taught me a few too........ _________________ Quadra-Fire Castile and Sante Fe inserts
