One of the most reliable sources of energy comes from the sun. The solar energy has been in use for quite long now. Sun’s energy has been nourishing the earth with its warmth and power since long. With the world reaching a dead end in its usage of diminishing fossil fuels, solar energy has emerged as a favorite option. Solar energy can be used in heating and generation of electricity.
Solar energy can be tapped in two ways: collecting its heat or converting its light into electricity. The latest technologies in tapping the solar energy are the PV or photovoltaic cells and the solar power plants. The Photovoltaic cells made up of silicon alloys, absorb the photons emitted from sun, which makes the silicon atoms to release the electrons from their orbit around the nucleus, which leads to electricity generation.
The solar power plant uses mirrors to deflect the sunlight from a large area into a small space, like that of a pipe filled with a fluid. When the sunrays falls into pipe, it raises the temperature of the fluid, which is used to boil the water and make steam. This steam is then used to run the generator. In the recent times, the solar energy investments have risen owing to its great advantages. |
