Has anyone tried to heat hot water with their stove whether it is to the hot water heater or a hydronic heater.

This might be cheating, but yes I heat my hot water with my Maxim. It's designed for that because you are pumping hot water into your house from the corn burner which is outside.

I wouldn't recommend modifying an indoor corn or pellet stove, lots of ugly threads here about that topic.

You can use your stove

its just going to be limited as to how much DHW you can make and you have to do it with a little finesse to a create a safe system.

its a great way to store energy when done correctly -- but often we see folks reporting here with a less than safe contraptions

We did, or should I say 'he' did and 'we' critiqued it. Laughing

My newly installed PEX system under the slab in my shop addition is giving me foresight into the benefits and disadvantages of HWH.

After everybody had their fun with a fellow who was learning about using a computer and has a handicap with spelling I was curious and started looking into his system.
It works well and he has many satisfied customers. There is pressure relief valves placed where needed and is as safe as any other system.
Among his customers there is two stove dealers who heat their stores using this system.
Being I have hot water baseboard heat I am going to switch to his system. At the present time there is a fuel oil furnace hooked up to the baseboard system and It runs for a hour every fall just to make sure it works.
Some of the readers of this forum know me and the fact that for the last year I have been selling Harman and St Croix stoves to help liquidate a friends stove business. I would say over half of these stoves were bought and resold with a water kit in them.
If you know where Annadale is you could spend a day visiting people who installed this system in their homes and businesses and are happy with them.
They can be installed and used for forced air heat, baseboard heat, or in-floor heat plus heating your domestic hot water needs.
If you want more information you can e-mail me.

Yeah I'd like to know more about it to. In England they make woodburners with what is called a backboiler in them, heats water and runs radiators, always wondered why they don't have them here.
