How long is the "Bixby" branded pipe lasting? Is it still available?
I just tried a local guy to check on DuraVent corn pipe because he is close, and he flatly refused to sell it to me if it was for a Bixby. He said they run too cool and moisture/soot eats the pipe through in 6 months. He also said Duravent was not honoring the warranty if it was on a Bixby.
I have been getting my pipe custom made at a local stainless place and it at least lasted 2-3 years except the terminal 3ft end. |

The outer layer of my Bixby pipe only lasted 2 1/2 years. _________________ Never trust a skinny chef

My Bixby outer pipe was still could when replaced at the 5 y mark. It was the inner pipe that failed for me on year 5.
I'm thinking that if the outer pipe fails, it could be because it is sucking exhaust that promptly condenses. Mary, what type of vent cap were you using? _________________ Bixby 115 MaxFire.

Bixby end caps have caused a lot of premature failures because if you get swirling winds they allow the exhaust to get sucked into the fresh air area and it will cool off to drop the pollutents to the bottom of the pipe causing premature failure. The same thing can be found in most basement installs using Bixby style pipe in a pipe systems.
It could be said that Bixbys burn too efficent so that the exhaust is to cold. It is very easy to use duro vent 3 inch corn pipe over the inner pipe and use it for the exhaust while disconnecting that rubber flex pipe from the exhaust and position it below the exhaust so you can hook a seperate pipe to it for your fresh air.
My guess there is a lot of information about doing that in the wikki.
I have some Corn Pro Duravent pipe that is 4 years old and is hooked up to a Bixby with no problems yet.
120.00 versus roughly 35.00 Yeah, not bashful are they. I wonder if your duro salesman mistakenly installed regular pellet pipe by mistake as that may go bad in one season with corn. |

I was using the new style cap and as Rona said I have it in a location that gets swirling winds. Now it is a PVC 60 _________________ Never trust a skinny chef

Let me guess, Mary,... your stove is running better since you changed your termination?
I'm doing much the same thing, with a 60 degr ABS and a baffle made from a sap bucket. Today, we received a phonecall from our insurance company's inspector on route to pay us a surprise visit. He needed directions. I directed him the long way, then used the time to fix up the seal of my Bixby "cone" vent cap and then re-installed it in place of the ABS. Now, with the inspection successfully concluded, we have reverted to the ABS & sap bucket design. Just call me "Saint Corny." _________________ Bixby 115 MaxFire.

Much better, haven't had a clinker jam or pot overflow since changing it. I knew last spring it needed work but it was close to the end of the season so I put up with it. _________________ Never trust a skinny chef

I have told many people with the 2.71 software and seperating the fresh air and exhaust will make it a lazy man's stove.
A lot of people installed these in a basement and after two years the high priced exh was junk and the stove would'nt perform right. Some people took a lot of convincing that the pipe was no good anymore but after they looked inside the rubber flex tubing and seen all the soot they realized something was wrong. in a pinch they could plug that three inch fresh air pipe on the exh and use inside air just to convince themselves. |

I'm on year 6 with an original 304 24" pipe, still solid in and out, 100% corn.
Proper installation/maintenance does haves it rewards....
Btw, still the original ceramic igniters as well. _________________ Dave & Maria Shaw

Thanks Corny!
In most cases, by the time I log in here, most questions have already been answered by one of our fellow Bixby experts. But, I still try to keep up with what's going on. Been very busy this fall as well. _________________ Dave & Maria Shaw

Hello gang,
Just thinking... has anyone found a high temp plastic pipe that could be fabricated for venting? The same question for ceramic..
What about a plastic vent cap..
