I believe the smarter man always "admits" his wife is smarter even if he knows better! That is common sense though... Maybe not intelligence?

This post began in the following thread authored by Pstores.
http://forum.iburncorn.com/viewtopic.php?t=3386 .
See the Pstores thread for additional details.
Here's temperature measured at the front of the grill during a ramp up from temperature setting #1 to #8. 2 runs were done before a cleaning. Some of the side holes in the burn pot were crusted over before the cleaning. The air holes in the lower paddle were all clear before the cleaning. The vent was cleaned, too, but yielded only a few tbsp of soot. Heat exchanger was cleaned thoroughly. The 3rd run was measured after cleaning.
Temperature is slightly higher after the cleaning. Reaches the higher temperature sooner after cleaning. Additional runs would be needed to determine if these results are significant.

I'll take that as a compliment, Cool; and, I suppose, ditto to anyone who appreciates this kind of stuff! _________________ Bixby 115 MaxFire.

GO Corny
Very nice job! Cleaning makes a difference I can see! I USUALLY try to keep mine at 1 week but sometimes I slip til 2 weeks. Cleaned yesterday ahead of all this cold air.
Winter here was slow to start but seems to be making up for it the last 3 or so weeks! _________________ Bixby Maxfire 115

Thanks guys. The data isn't as clean as I'd like. I wrote what I saw, observing the cycling that JET mentioned earlier. Several additional and longer runs (ideally with a datalogger ) would be needed before making too many conclusions. At the 100 minute mark, for example, temperatures are effectively the same before & after cleaning (i.e., the spread between runs is no greater than the variability between duplicate runs #1 and #2). . _________________ Bixby 115 MaxFire.

Just a bump-up for the new forum members, make it easier to find. There has been some output temp discussion again lately.... _________________ Dave & Maria Shaw

Question for Dave Shaw:
Why do you run your feed trim at +5?
Wouildn't it be easier to reprogram the drop rate for the levels you need extra on instead of using the trim? _________________ Propane? KEEP IT! |

JDH, I'm not sure I fully understand the second part of your question, but I think I can provide you a good answer anyway.
My theory is this: The Bixby stove is a heater. It's purpose is to provide heat to keep your house warm. I'm looking for the most heat I can get on any given heat level, the exception possibly being level 1. Big fire = max heat. More fuel = big fire. +5 feed = more fuel. Make sense? The only time I might back away from +5 feed, is on level 1, on a mild day, just looking for a trickle of heat. I adjust the temperature in the house by selecting the appropriate heat level. My wife likes mid 70's, so I keep the stove on whatever level it takes to maintain that temperature. This, of course, is based on outside temps, and amount of sun, as our home also utilizes passive solar.
+5 feed is simply a means of getting the maximum available heat out of any level. _________________ Dave & Maria Shaw

MY question is why don't you just reprogram the feed rate in the Maxfire's memory. Increase the feed rates to where you want them in the program .....so you don't have to be taking the side off of the unit all the time. Wouldn't that be easier? _________________ Propane? KEEP IT! |

That can only be done with the cable and software, which is not available to end users. _________________ Bixby 120 - Black/Nickel <--- In the house

I was asking Dave, Jason
Isn't he a dealer?
He should have the cable. _________________ Propane? KEEP IT! |
