Hey all,
I installed my Hopper extension a few months ago...
Here are the pictures:
The Product
Golden Grain 1201 fireplace insert
Full install
Side views:
Burn pot flames (Dial setting is 4):
Corn in Hopper Extension:
The issues
1. Random squeak coming from auger - squeak last approximately 1 - 2 seconds and occurs on all speeds.
2. Corn randomly does not feed through hopper with extension installed.
We, usually, push the corn down with a long stick (shown in full install picture on the right). This seems to get the corn down enough and start feeding the auger.
Problem #2 is most puzzling. The flame is going good, and then goes out 20 minutes later. When we push to corn down every 30 minutes or so, from a full corn load in hopper, the fire stays on. Once the hopper extension is 1/3 full, we do not seem to have as much trouble.
As far as problem #1, I heard six squeaks in the past three minutes on dial setting #4.
The corn is cleaned with a corn cleaner and Shop Vacuum.
Corn cleaner is the one reference from an earlier post:

Any suggestions? _________________ Just my two cents.

As far a squeek goes, are you sure it is coming from the auger? I have had to replace 2 exhaust blowers this year that when they go bad are squeeky loud, OR you could possibly have something stuck in the auger causing this squeek, I'd check that also.
As far as the corn not dropping down, not sure, but is the corn dry enough, at least 15%? Have not had this problem.
Hope I was able to give you some ideas.

What program did you use to do that? Thanks again, I will upload this picture tomorrow and have that as a link. _________________ Just my two cents.

oakridgeheat,
Actually, I am not sure it is coming from the Auger!
Is there a "safe" way to see if there is something stuck in the Auger?
I know to "cut" the power and all, but do I have to pull the insert out?
That would me I may have to disconnect the flu pipe and air intake pipe.

I have an old photo editor, Adobe PhotoDeluxe Business Edition 1.0. It was packaged with the software for a scanner. It's still one the easiest editors to use. _________________ Countryside 3500P (pedestal version) used 8-9 yrs, 24/7 during days requiring heat. All original motors. You should be able to just take off one of the sides and gain access to the auger motor, I have not worked on an insert yet, but I do believe there are screws that will just take off the sides. Good Luck!!!!! _________________ Brian Tracy
