I started it with fire gel once but mostly I used some news paper to get the pellets hot before turning on the fan. I never burned any thing other than pellets. Would go for about 15 to 30 minutes (depending on high or low) on a fill and I would just lift the pan up and add more pellets if I needed to keep cooking. It took around 5 minutes to get a pan of water boiling on high. They say it is as hot as an electric range burner and I believe that it is.

Oh the biggest thing is that once you get it going there is no smoke. I thought that you can buy a 40# bag of pellets for about the same price as one of those little bottles of propane and burn for way longer on the bag of pellets.
When I got mine and tried it out for the first time my son liked it so much he ordered him one the same day and now we have two burning when we go out. Would use to cook in a power outage but we have not had one since so we just use for camping.

thanks for the info and the lead, looks like it is going to work out well. on long light trips i use a esbit folding stove. but some short overnighters and day hikes will probably take this one just because it sounds cool and is different and will have the room in my pack. sent off for it, will be waiting for it to come in so i can mess with it.

thanks again-mark
