Just wanted to say Howdy to everyone.
I have been a wood pellet burner for 4 years now. I started when Oil prices shot through the roof. I bought a old whitfield 27500 BTU manual control and used it till this year. That little stove just got the job done. I would have to run it as hard as it could to keep the house warm when it got really cold.
A month ago I bought a Quadra-fire 1000 used with a new control board and convection fan. It was brown with the gold trim package. I painted it black with silver trim. I hooked it up with a programmable thermostat. I really like it, mostly because no more building fires to get the old one started and I don't have to guess where to put the controls for heat at night.
The Quad still has the ceramic pot, I am going to get the updated metal one soon. Has anyone done a changeover? Looking for any advise or tips!!!
If anyone needs advise on pellets here in the northwest I could help. I have tried them all. Some should be used as cat litter and that's it. I currently use Local made from a guy just getting started this year. $200.00 a ton made of pine.
This is from today. The little white thing to the right side is a humidifier, helps some. The big black thing in front on the floor is taking a break from doing nothing. That is her favorite spot until the kids make her move.
Take care, Pugi |

Well thank you. I agree on corn being cheaper but at this time I am not set up for it. I don't even think the quad is rated for corn. But still even burning wood pellets I am saving $1500 to $2000 a year.
The new pellet guy is using me as a test bed. For the general public it is 100% pine. Mine are 50% pine and 50% oak. They burn well. Not a big operation at all, It takes about 2 hours to produce one ton out of pine. He wants serious feedback in order to improve his pellets, So far what I have burned is just as good as Lignetics, so I think he is on the right track.
Another small operation is close by that charges $175 a ton. He has to much length variation for me though.
Best part is I have two ton out in the shop and only need one more to finish out the whole year. Or maybe the best part is I have not turned on the oil furnace in 4 years. I am not sure but I am Happy Pugi |

hi pugi and welcome to the forum. nice lookin stove. it will burn corn, but you either have to mix to run off of the thermostat, or to run pure corn, you would start it with a handful of pellets and then let it run till you shut it off to clean. glad your saving money. kap _________________ Quadra Fire

Pugi, consider this a friendly comment, have you tested the oil burner, in case you need it for some reason the quad goes down? If I remember right, people say to run a backup system 1 day a month.

Thanx guys,
Someday I may try a little corn or in an emergency I would, but for now its pellets for me.
As for that oil smoker, its in good shape but I will never run it. For an emergency backup I bought a old $50.00 pellet stove. It is in my shop to heat it, but can be moved into the house in no time. And now I have the whitfield I just took out of the house. If at some point all 3 pellet stoves break down I guess I will call the HVAC tech to check out the oil furnace so it can be run.
CanadaJoe, Thats a good buy on those pellets. I live about an hour from Boise, Down here the problem is we have around $30 to $40 in each ton just for transportation from the pellet manufacturing plants. Name brand pellets are about $230 to $250. Bear Mountain are my favorite and I did buy one pallet in late summer for $219, I saw them the other day for $259.00,
