I went on a trip with SAR president Randy (my father) to haul some units down south. We left at 4 a.m. it has been a busy day! I forgot what it was like working with Randy he is always on the go busy busy. I am 20 years younger and I was having trouble keeping up. Also I am documenting the trip on video camera and I will have the video up here sometime in the future. It has been interesting so far I will try and have some pictures up tomorrow night. Very Happy

Inside some chicken houses. It was amazing to see that these big buildings were heated by 1 600 Rocket

some of them were 500 ft. long Shocked from what I saw they were keeping a average of just over 83 degrees. Randy is happy on how they are performing and has been collecting data so when I get all the information I will try and get more on here.

Hey Jeremy, just how far south did you all come?
I have a Friend that has been bugging me for weeks to get more info.on heating his 4 chicken houses.
I told him if you all ever came close enough to southern Ky. that I would go with him to see one of the rockets in operation.
Still haven't been able to get the 100H unit I bought for my son to stay light all nite, bout out of ideas other than re programing the controls to a different idle setting.
Stay in touch,Steve in southern Ky.

The photos of the bird houses are very interesting. Would like to hear how the heaters work and how much money is saved.

Burnsalot,

Sat, Nov. 24th it was 17 degrees in the morning. Cloudy snowy rainy windy night and day 24 hour period. The 600 Rocket in each house averaged 11.5 bushel of corn at $3.75 per bushel equals about $43 in 24 hrs. In the same period it would have burned 112 gallon of propane times $1.65 equals about $185 so they saved around $142 per building per day. The guy in the picture Dan Goosetree saved $568 in one day.

The Rocket is centered in the the chicken building and blows heat into up to the peak where 2 tube fans blows that take the hot air in two directions.

SAR also manufactures the fans that are designed for the building and stove.

We were in southern MO. and Northern ARK. Possible some heading to KY. You can get ahold of Steve Shcoen on polturyfurnace.com and he can help you with exact locations.

Steve,

Give Randy or Theron a call tomorrow at 712-335-4616 that is the office number. They will do what they can to help. Randy told me to let you know that when it goes out don't clean your pot, you need a good base. You need to get a good burn going. When you first start it up the thermostat needs to be turned up for a couple hours so it is good and hot after the initial start up you can turn it back down. Randy said it will be harder for you being in southern KY because the furnace won't have as much on time and will cycle more.

About 57 years ago I rode with my dad in a delivery van with either 5,000 or 7,500 newly hatched Hy-Line chicks at Johnston, IA. We got them south of Des Moines and went by way of Kansas City, MO to Rogers, AR. The van's only seat was one of those on a post. My seat was a folding chair. The van had two heaters, the regular hot water van heater and a big, black gas heater below the dash. This was about March and the weather was bad. We took the chicks up in the mountains to where the chicken houses were. They were all set up with large rings of pens under heat lamps. Each box of chicks was emptied in to a ring. We started out about midnight and dad drove all night and we had the chicks at their destination by mid morning. We were back home by that evening. When you ride with that many baby chicks you can still hear them after their delivered and you have gone miles on the way home. Laughing

Jeremy, sent email to Steve about seeing rocket, also had an engineer Friend (who has been helping get my sons 100H going) to email Randy and Theron about programing the vera-max control to cycle faster in this mild weather.
Sure hope they get it straightened out,it really rocks out the heat when we can keep it cycling. Very Happy

Tallcorn:Sounds like you are an old chicken man from way back when.
These fellows who raise chickens, epically (brooders) have a hard time making any money at all in the winter months, they work just for the gas bill bout all winter.Sure would like to see them using some type of renewable energy, corn whit ch they can grow, litter whit ch they have to replace,or even grass pellets. Wink

Talk to you both later I hope.Steve

Yes, way back. Laughing I was born in my grandparent's house. Grandma hatched chicken eggs in a hatching "battery" that she had in her bedroom. It was a big red mahogany chest with a kerosene lantern heater. This was before electricity on the farm. My grandmother sold newly hatched chicks to other farmers. I can remember when I was very little sitting on the brooder house floor, surrounded by baby chicks. Very Happy
