Building your own screening system

Building your own corn screening system can sometimes be much cheaper than buying an off the shelf product. Many times you can build something that works just as good. To understand how screening works, the following diagrams show a two screen setup.

Primary Screen CornScreeningConcepts.gif

This is the top screen in a dual screen cleaner, it's job is to separate the over sized chunks of rock, dirt, cob, stalk or anything else that could jam up your corn feed system. The screen is sized so that kernels of corn drop through the mesh. But, pieces larger than a kernel roll over the surface and end up in a waste trough.

The secondary screen does just the opposite as the primary. The kernels of corn travel over the top of the screen and the particles fall through. At the bottom of the screen the clean corn falls.
