Categories
Categories are used to group together pages with like topics for ease of finding and reading. You will see category/categories that an article is linked to at the bottom of the page. For a list of all current categories, please see this page and for a list of all uncategorized pages, please see this page.
Pages can have more than one category and the most common secondary category is Category:Glossary.
Example
- In the following example, you will see that the page is linked to Category:Designs and Category:Planning.
Categories: Designs | Planning
Creating & Using Categories
- Determine if the page is categorized
- Check to see if the category exists already by visiting the Special:Categories page to review the list
- If the category exists, add the following code to the page:
[[Category:<categoryname>]]
- If the category does not exist:
- Think of a good name for the category. Keep it simple!
- Added the following code to the page:
[[Category:<yournewcategoryname>]]
- Done!
Defining a new category
If you have created a new category, you will notice that the link to the category from the page is red. After you are done editing the current page, follow the red link and add a description to your new category.
Linking to a Category
Within Wiki code, if you use the linking code to link to a category, you'll only end up adding the category to the page. Instead, add a : to the front of the Category. This also holds true for any special pages.
Please check out the [[:Category:Glossary]] terms.
