You place the pack on the fuel and light it. You don't have to open the pack-just light it. A 24 pack is $4.99 or 20 cents. No mess or plugged up gel bottle. The pack feels like the stuff is pretty stiff or dry. Not the cheapest of fire starting options but convenience, no mess and the ability to work in stoves with agitator fingers make this a very handy option.
