Talk:Burn corn
From Cornburning
1. Not everyone will agree with these comments, but you must consider the souce. Royal Dutch Shell believes that it is immoral to use corn for heating purposes as long as there are starving people in the world. But then that's just the kind of comment you might expect from an oil company. For more info, visit my blog: www.solarjohn.blogspot.com
2. The argument that it is immoral to use corn for heating purposes, while it has its merrits, is really not a good argument. First, the amount of corn that is burned is an insignificant amount when compared to the [amount of corn used for ethenol.][1] Second, by burning corn, we are reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere which in turn, lessens global warming. [Global warming poses a much, much larger risk to starving people of the world][2] than does burning corn. So much so that I would argue burning oil is immoral as long as there are PEOPLE in the world. One acre of corn produces over 5 tons of corn. I would dare guess that if one added up all the corn used to burn it would be an insignificant amount of the total corn produced. My last argument would be that more corn is used to feed livestock than would ever be used to burn for heat. [It is well documented that meat production has a huge impact on the environment.] [3] So, I would conclude that it is more immoral to eat meat.
