Talk:Grow my Own
From Cornburning
The article outlines corn growing issues. I have all the resources and experience I need to grow corn except one. You mention the removal of the kernels from the ears if using a picker ("you will need a corn sheller to remove the kernels from the ears").
I have grown award winning corn over 30 years of experience for corn silage. I have never picked. Now I have a picker but I'm having an incredible time finding a sheller. From the research I have been doing you have to hire a combine or pick it. I want to pick it and dry it in an all natural old fashioned corn bin. Then shell it. Isn't there a motorized or PTO driven shelling device that will accomplish this? I'm not interrested in the hand crank 1 ear at a time device that everybody keeps suggesting. There must be a better way to do this.
Thanks
