What the heck is a Wiki

From Cornburning

Jump to: navigation, search

A Wiki is a user editable series of web pages. It allows you, the user, to visit these pages. Read. And edit the contents. Like a living document. It is really perfect for us, all documenting the process of becoming corn burners. For documenting advanced ideas on where the future of corn burning is going.

A Wiki is very easy to use. Just click on the login/create account text up in the upper right hand corner. You have to create an account, there is nothing wrong with using the same user name you use in the forum. In fact, that is suggested. Unfortunatly though, this is different software so you can't just automatically login using your forum username and password. Create the user name. It is easy.

Then, read.

But pretty soon, I expect you are going to be reading along and you are going to see a sentence that is totally wrong, and you from your experience are going to know it is wrong. Say for instance, you saw something that said:

Corn burning doesn't work. Wood stoves are much better. They are cleaner,
less work, and much better for the environment. Plus, corn burner's dogs
all smell more, and have more fleas, than the typical wood burner's dogs.

All you have to do is click on the edit button up on the top, and you will be put into an edit window, that will allow you to correct this inflamatory statement about our dogs. Then, just hit save down at the bottom and your changes will be saved for all to see.

Granted, someone else might come back later and change your wording to something else. You can see all the changes that have happened to pages by hitting the "Recent Changes" text over on the top left side.

If you want to learn more about Wiki's and how to write in them, go back to the Main page and scroll all the way to the bottom for some links to the Wiki software people.

And please, correct my spelling if you see errors! :-)
