Overall Satisfaction: Very Satisfied Corn Burner.

House Size and Location: Installed Oct 2005 in South Central Wisconsin, near Madison. 1200 Sq' in each basement and first level ranch. Average insulation and leaky windows strapped with plastic film. Secondary natural gas furnace, furnace fan currently used to circulate heat throughout.

Where Purchased and Cost: Purchased from dealer in New Glarus, Fifth Avenue Shoppes http://www.fifthavenueshoppes.com/ including exhaust, fresh air vent, and installation < $3000.

Likes: Like the appearance. Thermostat can be connected. Adjustable stirrer frequency control. Space saving clearance requirements. Exhaust vent in garage keeps the garage around 40 degrees. No problems, modifications required or break downs. Capable of burning other biofuels. Pleasant exhaust odor similar to pumpkin being cooked.

Dislikes: Like with any space heater, the unit overheats the room it resides in. There is no auto fire start. Ash creeps out the openned door and settles on furniture.

Additional Comments:

Maintenance: You may expect to begin replacing motors in the 5-8 year range. They can be purchased directly from your dealer, or replacements can be purchased from Grainger.

Daily Cleaning: Pull heat exchanger cleaner in and out 10 times. Open door and tap both sides with cleanout tool. Open bottom gates and push ash through openning into ash drawer with cleanout tool. Fire up on high with full draft for 15 minutes to flush exhaust venting. Empty ash drawer around every 3 days.

Weekly cleaning: Pull heat exchanger cleaner in and out 10 times. Open door and tap both sides with cleanout tool. Open bottom gates and push ash through openning into ash drawer with cleanout tool. Fire up on high with full draft for 15 minutes to flush exhaust venting. Turn stove off and wait for fan to cool stove down until it shuts off. Remove firebrick, vac back wall, remove disks on back wall and vac with small hose in chambers behind it. Remove slideups in back of burn area and vac inside. Cleanup stir rod and reinstall all. Put a handful of oyster shell in burnpot, couple of handfulls of wood pellets in burn pot, apply starter fluid and light with stove set on 3. Pull the cleanout on the exhaust tee and shoot the soot into a can and replace cleanout.

Monthly cleaning: Run pellet brush through exhaust vent to cleanout.

Performance: With ceiling temperatures in living room stove resides in of 85 degrees, kitchen @ 75, hall @ 75, bedrooms @ 70, basement @70, garage @ 40. (Used 156 bushels at $2.50/Bu = $390 Heating Fuel for the year) vs (Estimate $1,435 Natural Gas cost for the year) Not sitting in the house with long underwear and blankets - "Priceless"
